Modern roofs for terraces
A wide variety of materials can be used for their construction, ranging from zinc, galvanized steel sheets or wood to ceramic tiles or slate, among others. However, even before choosing the material for our roof, we have to decide what type of roofing we want for our house.
If we had to start with the most basic classification, we could distinguish two different types of roofs: flat roofs and pitched roofs, although it is true that none of them is completely flat, since otherwise it would be impossible to evacuate rainwater. Flat roofs usually have a minimum slope of 3%.
Pitched roofs, on the other hand, usually have a slope of more than 10% for each of their skirts, which is the name given to the two inclined planes. Within this classification, we can also find a wide variety, determined to a great extent by the system used for the evacuation of rainwater:
The components of green roofs ensure that, on these surfaces, the runoff coefficient is very low, thus attenuating the peak flow of the runoff generated. But to be really effective in urban drainage management, it is often advisable to combine this technique with other sustainable drainage techniques.
The installation must be carefully carried out by specialists; a possible failure in the waterproofing can have dire consequences and be costly to repair. Planting must also be done in accordance with the viability requirements of the selected plant species.
Paul Buckley, the current creative director of Penguin Classics, has been in charge of putting together this visual history of the publishing house through its books. In its pages we can find the work, and more importantly, the valuable reflections, of professionals of the stature of Malika Favre, Jessica Hische, Alex Trochut or Mike Mignola, that’s nothing.
In its final pages, we also find a succulent bibliography, full of references, and essential for anyone who wants to delve deeper into the subject, as well as the, always welcome, index by words.
