Toyota Hybrid High Voltage Disconnect

Aiming to redefine the segment, the new Toyota Sienna in its 4th generation changes what a minivan is all about to adapt to a wider range of life stages and activities. Now with a hybrid powertrain across the board, integrating new technologies and amenities, the 2021 Toyota Sienna raises the bar for its segment in style, safety, comfort, versatility and fuel efficiency.

The 2021 Sienna is also ready for outdoor adventures with the option of AWD, and is well prepared for Yakima® accessories, such as a roof rack, crossbars, bike racks and more. Sienna will also offer an available trailer hitch and an optional factory 1,500-watt inverter with a 120V AC outlet.

In addition, all versions of the 2021 Sienna are rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s enough to drive a well-equipped compact travel trailer, or just to haul your bikes for a weekend getaway.

The wait is over. A few moments ago was unveiled the new Toyota Sienna 2021, in a new generation that has rejuvenated this long-lived minivan with reinterpreted lines that extend throughout the body. The vehicle also features more technology and powertrain options.

According to Toyota, the new aerodynamic lines on the sides help improve fuel consumption. Finally, we find a new set of taillights with thin LED lighting strips to improve the visibility of the vehicle, all crowned by the new 20-inch five-spoke wheels that give it a much more aggressive image.

Returning to the interior, we can also highlight new utilities that are integrated into the new Toyota Sienna 2021, such as a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10-inch electrochromatic rearview mirror and a premium audio system signed by JBL that incorporates 12 speakers including a subwoofer, all without forgetting of course connectivity with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa smart devices.

With its class-leading hybrid powertrain, its estimated fuel economy of 14 km/lt combined; it is available with All-Wheel Drive (AWD), Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor on all versions.

All versions of the 2021 Sienna are rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds. That’s enough to drive a well-equipped compact travel trailer, or just to haul your bikes for a weekend getaway.

Influenced by the bold and rugged character of SUVs, it has many premium features, such as: sliding side doors and hands-free opening sensor trunk, four-zone climate control system, super-long sliding second-row captain’s style seats with heating and footrests, on-board refrigerator and vacuum cleaner, a power tilt and telescoping steering column with heated steering wheel, 10-inch digital rearview mirror, and a color head-up display and 12-speaker JBL Premium audio system.

The LE and XLE have seven- and eight-passenger configurations: the L and Limited versions are seven-passenger only, and the SE (the one I tested) is eight-passenger.  Standard models come with front-wheel drive, but the LE, XLE and Limited are also available with all-wheel drive.

Front-wheel-drive models come with a sliding center console between the first two rows, extendable footrests for the second row, and a power-folding third row.Engine and Transmission.

SafetyIt brings anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, driver’s side knee airbags, active front head restraints and a rearview camera.I add blind-spot monitoring, rear and front cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors.

The SE’s firm suspension provides more confidence on long trips and greater body control over large bumps and undulations, without giving up an appreciable amount of comfort. The steering is marginally heavier as well, somewhat more natural than its competition, leading to a sportier feel.To my mind, in its ride and reliability, it is the best minivan on the market.
